Recording a test corresponds the user actions of the application under test so that UFT automatically generates the scripts that can be played back. Record and Playback gives us the first impression if the tool can support the technology or NOT if the initial settings are done correctly.
Steps for Record and Playback are as follows:
Step 1 – Click on “New” test from the Start Page or go to File menu “File >> New >> Test” as shown below:
Step 2 : The new test window opens and the user need to select the test type. Select “GUI Test”, enter name of the test and location where it needs to be saved and click “Create” button.
Step 3 : The new test screen opens as shown below. Now, click on “Action1” Tab which is created with 1 action by default.
Step 4: Click the Record button or go to Record Menu and then click on Record “Record >> Record” or press the record command shortcut key F6.
Step 5: The Record and Run Setting dialog box opens as shown below
Step 6: Enter application URL in the record and run setting dialog as shown above
Step 7: Navigate through your application. QTP records each step you perform and displays it in the keyword view and expert view.
Step 8: When you complete your recording session, click the Stop button or go to Record Menu and click on stop “Record >> Stop” or press the stop command shortcut key F4.
Step 9: Click the save button or select “File >> save”.
Step 10: Run the test by clicking Run button or go to “Run >> Run” or press the run command shortcut key F5.
Step 11: The result window is opened by default which exactly shows the timestamp of execution, pass and failed steps.
